Consumer Tips For Firewood Sales

-  Firewood is sold by the measurement of a cord, or a fraction thereof

-  A cord is 128 cubic feet

-  Stack the wood 4 feet wide, 4 feet high by 8 feet in length

-  Multiply 4 by 4 by 8 = 128 cubic feet, or one cord

-  Law requires a receipt

- The receipt should contain the buyer & seller’s name & address & delivery date

- The receipt should also show the price paid, the number of cords & the type of wood

- If one thinks he has been shorted, contact his local weights & measures office

MULCH SALES

- Before buying or accepting delivery of mulch, check the load for debris

- If delivered, measure the truck's bed width time’s length time’s height in feet

- Level the load of mulch while it is in the truck. Some settling is acceptable

- Divide his total by 27 to figure out cubic yards

- Example: 3 feet high times 3 feet long times 3 feet wide = 27, divided by 27 = 1 cubic yard of mulch

- Always get a receipt with the name, address & phone number of the business
