- Firewood is sold by the measurement of a cord, or a fraction thereof
- A cord is 128 cubic feet
- Stack the wood 4 feet wide, 4 feet high by 8 feet in length
- Multiply 4 by 4 by 8 = 128 cubic feet, or one cord
- Law requires a receipt
- The receipt should contain the buyer & seller’s name & address & delivery date
- The receipt should also show the price paid, the number of cords & the type of wood
- If one thinks he has been shorted, contact his local weights & measures office
- Before buying or accepting delivery of mulch, check the load for debris
- If delivered, measure the truck's bed width time’s length time’s height in feet
- Level the load of mulch while it is in the truck. Some settling is acceptable
- Divide his total by 27 to figure out cubic yards
- Example: 3 feet high times 3 feet long times 3 feet wide = 27, divided by 27 = 1 cubic yard of mulch
- Always get a receipt with the name, address & phone number of the business
